January 2024 meeting notes

Our January meeting had 22 members and guests turn out.  Everyone had a great time socializing and enjoying the presentation.  If you haven't been to a meeting lately, you are missing out on a great social hour and some good bench racing stories.

We held Executive Team elections and there will be no changes.  Bret will stay on as Secretary, but some of his workload, like the points system and coordinating club rides, will be passed on to others.

We've installed 4 signs from our Yamaha Grant program money.  We still have three to install on BLM lands.  We'll wait for warmer weather to finish those installations.  You can view photos of those we've already installed here:  2023 Yamaha Grant Trail Sign Install

Of most importance is for members and their riding friends to comment on our two CPW grant requests.  Those comments are due before 2 Feb 2024.  The program webpage is here:

CPW Grant Program

Our submissions are numbers 41 and 42.  For the Trail 672 grant (Mt Rosa or Nelson's) remind the CPW that CMTRA hasn't submitted for any grant money for several years.  The proximity of this trail to the front range invites many users to try it and in its current deteriorated condition, it desperately needs maintenance.

As for the Penrose Commons grant, remind them that the area is also along the front range and is a primary destination for winter time riding.  There are no current designated single track trails in that area and this project is the jump start to get those added.

If both grants are approved, it will benefit thousands of Colorado trail riders along the front range.

Make your comments to:  trails@state.co.us or via postal mail to: CPW State Trail Program, attn: Tom Metsa, 13787 Hwy. 85 S., Littleton, CO 80125.

Our member spotlight was Don Riggle.  Don has been riding for over 60 years and has been instrumental in organizing motorized trail rights programs here in Colorado.  He's heavily involved with the Trails Preservation Alliance (TPA) as well as other organizations.  He's full of good bench racing stories!  Ride on, Don!
