North Cheyenne Cañon Park - gravel parking lot improvements

Bret E Williamson | Published on 4/24/2021

Below is a string of emails concerning the subject. In short, Gold Camp road will be closed for about 3 weeks starting in May. However, it also says dirt bikes may go around the closed gate to ride Captain Jacks.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your question. Yes, off road motorcycles will be able to pass around the gate at the Upper Skyway gate to access Captain Jacks. Riders can also continue along gold camp, through the construction site and access the other closed part of Gold Camp Road (west of the parking lot). Our contractor will make accommodations for recreational users to pass through the area.

Please let me know if I can provide any other information.

Thanks,

David,

Will off road motorcycles be able to use the pass around next to the north gate so we can access Captain Jacks trail system?

Subject: North Cheyenne Cañon Park - gravel parking lot improvements

Good Afternoon,
As a neighbor to North Cheyenne Cañon Park, I wanted to share that City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is moving forward on a project to improve and expand the large gravel parking lot at the west end of North Cheyenne Canon Park. This parking lot is located at the intersection of North Cheyenne Canon Road, High Drive, and Gold Camp Road, just uphill from Helen Hunt Falls. A photo is attached for reference. The construction work is tentatively scheduled to being May 3rd, 2021, and lasts for approximately three weeks.

To streamline the contractor's work schedule, reduce potential significant congestion in the park, and mitigate impacts to park visitors, the City of Colorado Springs will maintain a vehicle closure on Gold Camp Road, from the park's north boundary (north of the Chutes and Ladders Trailhead) through the project site down to Helen Hunt Falls. Gold Camp Road will remain closed to public vehicles, however, will be passable for recreational users and emergency access at any time. The existing park gates will remain closed on Gold Camp Road to provide the closure for the duration of the project. Residents of Canonwood will be required to use North Cheyenne Canon Road for access.

Additional signs in advance of the closure gates will be place both on Cheyenne Blvd and Gold Camp Road in Upper Skyway and the City of Colorado Springs will provide notification via news media, social media outlets, and on the City's Website at www.ColoradoSprings.gov in the coming days. It is anticipated the improved parking lot and Gold Camp Road will reopen for the Memorial Day weekend.

We appreciate your patience during the construction project. I anticipate additional details will be made available next week and will keep you posted should there be any significant changes to the schedule. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can provide any additional information.

Thank you,
