Nelsons Trail #672 on Mr. Rosa - Workday #1
About this event
This is the first of 2 or 3 workdays on Mt. Rosa this season and we would love to have 10 volunteers for each workday. Last season we had two successful workdays on the west side of Nelsons Trail #672. This season we will focus on the east side and make this difficult trail more sustainable and rideable for advanced riders. CMTRA received a Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance grant to support this trail restoration. We have purchased some lightweight tools for this type of trail work, and we will be providing food and drinks for all volunteers.
For those of you that would like to ride your dirt bikes to this workday, the Gold Camp Road closure is impacting our ability to stage at the Captain Jacks trailhead. The US Forest Service has graciously agreed to allow us to use High Drive to access the Captain Jack's trail system. CMTRA volunteers will meet at the intersection of Gold Camp Rd., Bear Creek Rd. and High Drive (the hairpin turn) at 0800 (8am). A CMTRA representative will provide access through the High Drive gate. For those of you that would like to drive a four-wheel drive vehicle or plated bike to the meeting location, you may take Gold Camp Rd. to Forest Service Rd. 381. Follow FS 381 until you get to the east entrance of Nelson's Trail #672. Please be aware of the section of Gold Camp Rd. that is currently closed. Please contact Tad Hershey, membership@cmtrail.org or 248-909-9599(m) to confirm your participation and get the latest logistics information.
We will be working alongside USFS trail crew members and you will be expected to bring appropriate protective equipment (e.g., eye protection, long sleeve shirts and long pants, boots and gloves). The volunteer work involves hiking and handwork above 10,000'. We will be trimming trees and branches, moving large rocks, shoveling dirt, and hiking up to 2 miles. This work goes a long way to enhance our relationship with the USFS and they greatly appreciate our efforts. Thank you for joining us!
Registration is required as we will be providing lunch and water to all volunteers. We will also be giving away Club points and tracking volunteer hours.
