This presentation was recently shared publicly during a video conference with the Forest Service. This is a long-term project that will be implemented over the next 15 years or so. The treatment area in this project covers the north end of Pike National Forest and areas that many of our member's ride.
Given the scope and duration of this project, CMTRA and other recreation user groups will be impacted for many years. Additionally, this may be an opportunity for us (and other user groups) to work with and support the USFS, while protecting our limited single-track in the region. The USFS plans to use hand, mechanical, and fire treatment methods to implement their plan. Hand treatment means boots on the ground (chainsaws, etc.). Mechanical treatment means timber processers, bulldozers, skidders, helicopters, etc. - think wide roads through the forest. Fire treatment is a prescribed burn area, generally a few weeks in nature.
Our contact is Ryan Kolling, South Platte Ranger District Project Leader, so CMTRA will have a communication link to the project and can provide feedback as necessary.
The public comment period lasts through 4 Dec 2024. You may comment on the project here:
